Darvocet Precautions

If a patient is in the habit of consuming more then 3 alcoholic beverages per day and has a history of liver disease (Cirrhosis) he may not be able to take medications that contain Acetaminophen. Darvocet (Propoxyphene) is habit forming and should only be used when prescribed by the Physician. Keep the medicine out of reach of children and other persons.

 Important notes to be discussed with the Doctor before using Darvocet

The Doctor should know if one is allergic to any drugs or if one has asthma, sleep apnea, breathing disorder, liver disease, and kidney disease. He should also inform if he ever had head injury or brain tumor, low blood pressure, a stomach or intestinal disorder. Person suffering from curvature of the spine, mental illness should let the Doctor know about the same. A Doctor should know about addiction of alcohol or drug. If you need to have any kind of surgery then the surgeon will need to be told about your using Darvocet as you may be asked to stop using the medicine for a short period. Doctor should be made aware if you are pregnant or are planning to become during the treatment because Darvocet is harmful to an unborn baby and so could cause breathing problems or addiction/withdrawal symptoms in a newborn baby. Darvocet also passes through breast milk and may harm a nursing baby too so do not use Darvocet without informing your Doctor about your breast feeding a baby.

Darvocet Overdose

In case of Darvocet Overdose consult the Doctor immediately. An overdose of Darvocet may be fatal.  Overdose symptoms include extreme drowsiness, pinpoint pupils, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, jaundice, confusion, fainting, weak pulse, seizure (convulsions), coma, blue lips, shallow breathing, or no breathing.
An overdose of Darvocet (acetaminophen) can cause serious harm to your liver.

Darvocet Dosage

Maximum amount of Darvocet (acetaminophen) for adults is 1 gram (1000mg) per dose and 4 grams (4000mg) per day. One tablet of Darvocet may contain up to 650 mg of acetaminophen. You should always know about the amount of acetaminophen in the specific product you intake.  Medicine should be taken with a full glass of water followed by food or milk to ease stomach upset. To avoid constipation it is necessary to have 6-8 full glasses of water daily. Doctor should be consulted with regards to ways to increase the fiber in the diet. Do not use stool softener without consulting the doctor. You may have withdrawal symptoms after you stop using Darvocet after having used Darvocet for a long period of time so do not stop intake suddenly without informing your Doctor. You will have to reduce the intake of Darvocet before you completely stop using Darvocet.

Darvocet Missed Dose

Darvocet is taken as and when needed so there may be no schedule to take Darvocet. If incase you take Darvocet regularly then take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it is almost time to take the next dose then skip the missed dose. Do not use extra medicine to compensate for the missed dose of Darvocet.
